Well, the Shaggs are a wonder to us all, but that "all" does not seem to encompass very many people. If you have heard the Shaggs and have anything to say about them or just want to list your favorite track (or maybe I should says favoriteS as who could choose?!?!?), be my guest (literally) and sign-in. The "email" field is optional and if you do fill it in, your name will become an email link. If not, I guess we (the royal "we" of course) cannot hold it against you. :)

My drum teacher told me about The Shaggs last night and I listened to youtube videos last night before bed. I went to sleep with a big smile on my face - for perhaps many different reasons. The music and the story is very charming!

I love the absolute honesty of the music. so much better than the fake computerized music of today. The Shaggs were completely on track.

I first heard them close to a decade ago in a flash video by Taco The Wonderdog. I recently heard them again in a spengbab video. One of my friends that I enjoyed a few summer days with in Bloomington had a strong affinity for Zappa. Finally, these all come together. Like when someone tells you a joke that you don't get... then, as you're closing your eyes to go to sleep, it finally makes sense.

It's nice that I finally understand. But it's 2011. Some things don't change much, but as far as internet, music delivery, and people voicing ideas... a ghost of an idea. It was there, then it went somewhere else, and all you have now is the memory.

Thank you, and I hope the songs in your heart and heads will find smiles in your faces. :)

I don't quite understand it myself, but I absolutely love this music.
Many people around consider this antimusical, with few of them still admitting the charm of it.

It's fascinating how Internet let the word about The Shaggs spread. It certainly doesn't make them into the top charts, but people can rest assured that this music has a chance to touch people around the globe... touch people who are open for it. This is wonderful.

Just discovered The Shaggs whilst browsing rare music vids on YouTube. Growing up in the same era and being an amateur musician for many years, I was really touched to hear your music and read about you. I love your singing. There's a very special, rare charm in your songs (especially "MY Cutie", and in your covers such as "Yesterday Once More") that's sorely lacking in modern music.

Wow! Yes I am what I consider to be a very good and slick musician for over 45 years. I am floored by the Zen quality of this music! I am sure there is a great human story behind this music. I suspect it may be a bit of a tragedy, but these tracks are unflinchingly beautiful in their honesty. The first track I listened to was the "foot Foot " track and that was all it took. It is almost like a very un-polished, totally un-intended Captain Beefheart vibe, with more innocence ,desperate longing, and much less pretension. Too much! I am sure there is a GREAT MOVIE here! One that I would love to see! I must call my friend tomoorow and thank him for turning me on to this!

No matter how much you think you know about music, even if you've been made to read Donald J. Grout's A History of Western Music from cover to cover, the Shaggs will make you realize we know nothing. We should all just go back to square one and start over

my buddy told me about The Shaggs from a movie with John Cusack in it that mentioned this band as a part of America's biggest musical influences alongside Led Zepplin, Tom Petty, Pink Floyd and such

I just heard the shaggs for the first time and I can't stop listening to them. The first time I heard them it was "What Should I Do". I said "What is this?? it sounds like backwards music!" You can't fake music like that.

There is something strange about this music. Something strange, yet... compelling.

The story behind the music is also strange. This story informs, even validates (perhaps) the music.

What's beyond question is the innocence of it, the naivete, and yes, the purity. It is that, finally, which validates the unique achievement of the Shaggs.

God bless you all.

The Shaggs are pure music, pure innocence, and I always feel happy after listening to them. Whenever I need a smile, I throw on the Shaggs.

I DO have a question which I hope can be answered here. Does the RCA Victor "Philosophy" CD contain the "remixed" versions of the songs? Cub Koda's review states that its the original mix, while the RCA liner notes specify a remix engineer credit. I'm confused. Please help.

To me, The Shaggs represent a 1960s 'Grapes of Wrath' musicianship. Their surge of popularity is a testiment to society's ability to appreciate artistic spirit, void of commercial pretense.

I finally found a copy of "Rev-Ola". The music you made is so true, honest and pure. Favorates are "My Cutie", the origianl version of "My Pal Foot Foot" and "You're Something Special To Me".

Look forward to finally hearing the CD, as I've read about the girls for some years. I'm taking the plunge. As a cat-lover, I'm particularly intrigued by 'Foot Foot'. I heard an excerpt from the 'Philosophy' title track and couldn't quite believe my ears. More interesting and passionate than Britney. You girls rocked!

I am haunted by these songs; even in the upbeat nature of some of the lyrics I hear sadness and isolation in the presentation, in the way the words are lisped, with Helen the drummer in a world of her own. There is no sarcasm here or pretense of talent, merely a truth of place, an Auschwitz of the mind. I hope someone makes a really good movie about 'The Shaggs' so group members can have a little jack in their old age.
